Any pharmacy located in the United States that dispenses specialty drugs (those pharmaceuticals that usually require special handling, administration, unique inventory management, and a high level of patient monitoring and support) to consumers with specific chronic conditions, acute events, or complex therapies, and provides comprehensive patient education services and coordination with the patient and prescriber is eligible to apply for the URAC Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation program. Retail, chain and other fulfillment pharmacies may benefit from URAC's Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation program due to its focus on quality standards and educational support.
